Mechanical and durability assessment of concrete containing seashells: A review

This study reviews recent literature on the mechanical and durability properties of concrete incorporating seashells as partial or full substitutes for conventional materials. The summarizes various contributions elucidating waste utilized, growing worldwide aquaculture production, seashell material preparation treatment, chemical composition, physical properties, different test methods adopted by previous studies such compressive strength, split tensile flexural modulus elasticity, freeze-thaw resistance, water permeability, air content, attack, carbonation, weight loss. showed that indicate reductions percentages with increases in substitution ratio at 5% to 75%, compared control mixes. However, relative strength were recorded increase curing age up 90 days. Influence varied across tests percentages. In a nutshell, use production has good effect, further innovative research can solidify its utilization drive towards sustainable development.
